HARVEST HOPE:
A MUSICAL PRESENTATION AND VARIETY CONCERT
Presented by Scoil Muire Gan Smal, Claddaghduff
30 November, 2012, Claddaghduff Community Hall
The Aughrus Peninsula was given a really special treat on 30th November 2012, with a fund-raising concert presented by the pupils of Claddaghduff National School (Scouil Muire Gan Smal - sorry, we can't 'do' the fada very easily on this site...). There's a photo gallery at the bottom of this page (photos of the night itself courtesy of Dorothy Conneely - thanks, Dorothy!- photos of the presentation ceremony to St Vincent de Paul by Heather Greer).
Here's what the pupils themselves - with just a wee bit of help from their teachers - had to say about the night:
"Claddaghduff school performed a musical as part of their Christmas Concert on Friday 30th November in Claddaghduff Hall. The theme of the musical “Harvest Hope” was sharing and giving to those less fortunate than ourselves. From the funds raised we gave €1250 to the St Vincent de Paul.
The concert opened with Ms O’Malley’s junior room performing poems which everyone loved. This was followed by an excellent piano recital given by the students of Breda O’Toole which included Hugh Manley, Hilary Joyce, Millicent Marinot Woods, Caroline Conneely, Jennifer DeCourcey, Muireann McGloin, Maeve Vaughan and Leah Dyck. Next the school choir sang a selection of songs in Irish and English. They were accompanied by Breda O’Toole and Eileen O’Malley. Richie Newman and Ms O’Malley then accompanied the sean nós dancers from the Devaney school of dancing who lifted the roof with their performance. The dancers included Megan Walsh, Caroline Conneely, Leanne Hayes, Nikita McLoughlin, Jennifer DeCourcey, Molly Nuchton and Grace Cafferky. We finished of this first half with a selection of traditional tunes performed by the children in the senior classes.
We the children of Claddaghduff School want to thank Breda O’Toole, Marie Walsh and our teachers for all the preparation they did with us. We would also like to thank the Church choir which supported us on the night. Our costumes were made by Rebecca Walsh and Josie McGloin. The Monster raffle was organised by Jackie Hannon, Nancy Duffy and Angela Coyne. The lighting and sound equipment were provided by Michael O’Malley and son Dylan- our thanks to Cleggan/Claddaghduff Lotto for sponsoring this. We would also like to thank the Claddaghduff Hall Committee for all their hard work -setting up and arranging the hall for us and collecting on the door. Finally we would like to thank everyone who came out and supported us on the night and bought the raffle tickets. We had an amazing selection of prizes all generously donated by local businesses.
We really enjoyed the night. Go raibh míle maith agaibh as ucht bhur dtacaíocht."
