Drink-driving laws in Ireland are strict, and became even more so in 2011. The general rule should be: "If you drink, don't drive". Random breath-testing for alcohol and illegal drugs is legal, and it does happen!

Do be aware that the taxi cab operators can get busy at times when there's a big demand; so if you think you will need a taxi, our advice is to call early and often.

Of course there are garages for car repair in Clifden itself, but here on the Aughrus Peninsula, many people favour Willie Hughes (and his assistant John) of Cleggan for his friendly, value-for-money, responsive approach. If he can, he will always try to 'see you right'! He is located at his house (with double garage to the left), a short way out of Cleggan, driving in the Claddaghduff direction - just opposite the Coastguard Station on your left hand side.
